Ask Frequently Asked Questions to your counsellor

FAQ for counselling

…..if the answer isn't below, just call me.

Is everything I tell you confidential?

Sessions are conducted in strict confidentiality and at the first counselling session I will explain the terms fully and answer any questions. In addition, this also applies to all conversations outside of a counselling session e.g., booking appointments etc...

Is there a long waiting list? Are there appointment times available after hours?

There is not usually a long wait, especially if you have daytime availability during the week. Evenings are available but do often get booked up in advance.

Are appointments in-person or virtual?

I usually see my clients face to face in my counselling room based at my home in Berwick. I have also continued to offer telehealth via phone or video call - the choice is yours.

Can I access you as part of my mental health plan negotiated with my GP?

Unfortunately, Counsellors are still not covered by Medicare rebates. This means that you receive counselling as a private client. However, some private health funds will provide rebates depending on your fund and eligibility. Some of these have given me provider numbers based on my membership of the Australian Counselling Association and PACFA.

Is a referral from a GP needed?

No, as I am accessed privately, you can simply contact me directly.

How much does it cost?

Individual client sessions are $115.

Couples client sessions are $185

Are my values and beliefs respected?

Yes, absolutely! As a counsellor, I provide a non-judgmental environment where particular attention is focused on your emotional safety and support, and provide unconditional positive regard for you as an individual.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions required will be dependent on you and how you respond to counselling. It is safe to say that it is unusual that one single session will bring about enough change, but it often becomes apparent when you don’t need counselling anymore.

How do I know if I really need therapy?

This is hard to answer but in a confidential free fifteen-minute phone discussion with me, clients usually reach a conclusion either way. There is nothing to lose by having a chat.
